Prokott fans 10 to lead Beavers to win over Minnesota Duluth in Saturday split

MINOT, ND – Minot State pitcher Jonah Prokott turned the day around for the Beavers with an outstanding effort on the hill.
 
Striking out 10 Minnesota Duluth batter, Prokott earned the win as the Minot State baseball team (13-25 overall, 10-18 NSIC) bounced back strong for a 6-2 win over the Bulldogs (15-23, 11-18) in the nightcap of an NSIC doubleheader at Corbett Field on Saturday. The visiting Bulldogs won game one, 7-3.
 
The two teams conclude their 3-game series on Sunday with a final contest scheduled for noon.
 
GAME 1 | Minnesota-Duluth 7, Minot State 3
MINOT, ND -- Ricky Apodaca went 1-for-3 with a home run and an RBI for the Minot State Beavers in a 7-3 loss to the Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs on Saturday.
 
Trevyn Badger (1-5) got the ball to start for Minot State and took the loss. Ayden Sauerbrei was a bright spot for the Beavers coming out of the bullpen and throwing two scoreless innings, allowing one hit, with no walks and one strikeout.
 
Offensively, the Beavers were led by Apodaca who went 1-for-3 on the day with a home run and an RBI. Mark Ossanna put together a standout performance at the plate as well, going 1-for-3 with a home run and an RBI. Brian Parry also helped out for Minot State, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate while adding a double.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Beavers were trailing 2-0 in the second inning when they first put runs on the board. Ossanna put Minot State on the board with a leadoff home run off Brayden Buttweiler.
 
The Bulldogs expanded their lead to 6-1 before the Beavers offense got back to work, cutting into that lead in the fourth. Minot State picked up a run on Apodaca's leadoff home run off of Buttweiler, which tightened the Bulldogs lead to 6-2.
 
Minnesota Duluth expanded their lead to 7-2 before the Minot State offense got back to work, reducing that lead to 7-3 in the seventh. The Beavers were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.

In addition to his 10 strikeouts, Prokott went 8.1 innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on five hits and walking two for Minot State.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Beavers were trailing 1-0 in the first inning when they first put runs on the board. Minot State's offense started clicking and put up four runs, including a three-run home run off the bat of Noah Madas.
 
The Beavers then held the Bulldogs scoreless before expanding their lead in the eighth inning. Minot State brought home a pair, with one run driven in by Seugjun Song's single, which brought the score to 6-1 in favor of the Beavers. Minnesota Duluth put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but Minot State still coasted to the 6-2 win.
