Carlin Zant scored her first collegiate goal and
Bailey Grunewald stopped 14 of the 15 shots she faced to earn her first collegiate win as the Minot State women's hockey team skated to a 3-1 win at Niagara on Saturday afternoon.
The same two teams meet again Sunday morning as the No. 2-ranked Beavers (3-2-2 overall) wrap up a four-game road trip.
Zant's first goal came just 54 seconds into the action Saturday off assists by
Karlyn Gudz and
Paige Kozak.
The Beavers tacked one a goal in each of the next two periods for a comfortable 3-0 lead, as Kozak scored in the second period and
Krissy Rink added a third-period goal.
That was plenty of support for Grunewald who made 14 saves and didn't let the 14th-ranked Purple Eagles on the board until the final 3:10 of the game.
Zant,
Marlie Rutherford,
Journey Miller, and
Cameron Schmidt each added an assist in the Beavers' win.
