Beavers fall in 5-set match at Mary

BISMARCK, N.D. -- The Minot State volleyball team fell 3-2 (21-25, 25-21, 27-25, 15-25, 15-10) to the Mary Marauders Tuesday on the road at McDowell Activity Center in NSIC action.

The loss dropped Minot State's record to 3-18 overall and 1-11 in NSIC play.

The Beavers offense was paced by Caton Pearcy, who finished with 11 kills on the day, and by Paulina Kowalska, who had 10. Minot State got 25 digs from Maya Vibeto along with six blocks from Azjiah Trader and six rejections from Mia Thompson to lead them defensively.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Beavers opened up an early one set to none lead, winning the first set 25-21. Minot State grabbed the advantage for good at 16-15 in a set that showcased three lead changes before the Beavers took over in the second half of the stanza.

SET 2 | Minot State then fell in set two 25-21, tying the match at a set apiece. Mary grabbed the advantage for good at 14-13 in a set that was tied up nine times before the Marauders took over in the second half of the stanza.

SET 3 | Minot State fell again in set three to make it a 2-1 deficit. The Beavers fell in a back-and-forth battle, losing 27-25 in a set that featured eight lead changes and was tied 12 times. Neither team had a lead of more than four points along the way. A kill by Katelyn Onespot-Danforth and a tandem block by Onespot-Danforth and Trader gave the Beavers a set point, up 24-23, before the Marauders rallied for the win  

SET 4 | Minot State broke their two set losing streak and forced a fifth set with a 25-15 victory in set number four. The Beavers took the lead for good at 9-8 in a set that showcased three lead changes before the Beavers took over the lead.

SET 5 | After dropping sets two and three, Minot State won set four, knotting up the game at two sets apiece to force a fifth set, but couldn't complete the comeback, losing the set 15-10 and the match 3-2. The Beavers fell behind 5-0 in the fifth and deciding set and fought from behind the rest of the way.
