FREMONT, Neb. – The Minot State men's hockey team took some time to get rolling Friday night, but when the Beavers did, they skated past host and 25
th-ranked Midland, 4-2.
The comeback victory by the 2
nd-ranked Beavers also was the first collegiate win for goalie
Blake Sittler, who finished with 30 saves on the night.
The same two teams meet again Saturday in Nebraska to wrap up the weekend series.
After a scoreless first period, Midland took the lead 3 minutes, 15 seconds into the second period, igniting Minot State (4-0-1 overall, 2-0-1 MCH).
Joey Moffatt tied it 1-1 just 3:06 later off a
Jay Buchholz assist, then 52 seconds into the third period,
Colby Joseph found the back of the net, breaking the 1-1 tie.
Slade Stanick assisted on Joseph's goal.
Brett Tataryn then made it a 3-1 game with his first of two goals, a power-play score with assists by Matthew Yakobowski and
Christian Kadolph.
Tataryn added his second of the night just 1:24 later off an
Eric Krywy assist for a commanding 4-1 lead.
The Warriors (2-6-1, 2-4-0) got one back late, but it wasn't enough to spoil the first collegiate win for Sittler.
