MINOT, ND -- The #4 Minot State Beavers women's hockey team battled to the final whistle in game two of their weekend series against #1 Midland University but fell 2-1 in overtime on Saturday, November 1, at the Maysa Arena. With the overtime loss, the Beavers move to 4-2-6, while Midland improves to 17-1-1.
Minot State opened the scoring in the first period as
Cameron Schmidt found the back of the net at 3:00 into the period with an assist from
Krissy Rink. The Beavers carried their 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
The second period featured strong defensive play and timely saves from both sides with no scoring recorded in the frame.
Midland tied the game at 8:07 into the third period when Grace Page scored to make it 1-1. Neither team could break through again in regulation which forced overtime for the second straight contest.
Midland netted the game winner just 1:28 into the overtime period on a goal by Callie Maguire to secure the 2-1 victory.
The Warriors out-shot the Beavers 37-19 in the matchup. In goal,
Jillian Ackerman delivered another impressive performance for Minot State recording 35 saves on 37 shots on goal.
Each teams' penalty kill unit was impressive in this contest as Minot State finished 0-for-5 on the power play, and Midland finished 0-for-4.
The Beavers now turn their attention to a two-game road series against the University of Jamestown in Jamestown, North Dakota. Game one is scheduled for Friday, November 14, at 7:00 pm, and game two is set for Saturday, November 15, at 3:00 pm.
