MINOT, ND --The Minot State men's basketball team shot 52.4 percent from beyond the arc on the way to a 105-72 win against Bismark State College at home on Wednesday.
The Beavers (2-1) had six players score in double figures, led by Deuce Benjamin, who had 21 points, six rebounds and three steals. Darik Dissette added 17 points and Lovasoa Andriatsarafara chipped in as well with 12 points and seven rebounds from the bench.
Minot State took advantage of fantastic ball movement in Wednesday's game, piling up 19 assists on 39 made field goals. Individually, Sean De Kovachich dished out the most for the Beavers with three assists.
Minot State forced 14 turnovers while committing only nine themselves in Wednesday's game. The Beavers turned those takeaways into 25 points on the other end of the floor. Benjamin's three steals led the way for Minot State.
How It Happened
After jumping out to a 33-25 advantage, Minot State went on an 11-0 run with 8:09 left in the first half to increase its lead to 44-25. The Beavers then added four points to that lead by the end of the period and entered halftime with a 56-33 advantage. Minot State relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down eight shots to account for 24 of its 56 points.
Following intermission, Minot State kept widening that lead, expanding it to 93-63 before going on an 8-0 run, finished off by Dylan Gichaba's three, to grow the lead to 101-63 with 2:52 to go in the contest. The narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Beavers still cruised the rest of the way for the 105-72 win. Minot State took care of business in the paint, recording 26 of its 49 points in the lane.
