MINOT, ND --Deuce Benjamin scored 27 points and Darik Dissette added 18 more, combining to score 45 of Minot State's 69 total points as the Beavers took down the Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagles 69-61 at home on Saturday.
Benjamin led the Beavers (6-5, 3-2) with 27 points. Dissette added 18 points and eight rebounds, and Carson Yale chipped in with 10 points and seven rebounds.
Minot State's defense held Minnesota Crookston to only 30.2 percent shooting from the field, including 26.9 percent from beyond the arc. The Beavers also limited Kazadi Mukoma to four points in the game.
How It Happened
After falling behind 5-2, Minot State went on a 12-0 run with 16:08 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Benjamin, to take a 14-5 lead. The Beavers then lost some of that lead, but still entered halftime with a 38-31 advantage. Minot State did most of its first half damage in the paint, scoring 20 of its 38 points close to the basket.
Minot State kept its lead intact before going on a 6-0 run to grow the lead to 69-61 with 43 seconds to go in the contest. The Beavers held onto that lead for the rest of the game for the 69-61 win. Minot State got out on the break in the second half, scoring eight fast break points.
