Minot State shoots 50 percent from deep, tops Jamestown 85-78


 

MINOT, ND --The Minot State men's basketball team shot 50 percent from beyond the arc on the way to an 85-78 victory over the at home Thursday.

The Beavers (4-4, 1-1) had four players score in double figures, led by Deuce Benjamin, who had 28 points. Kiku Parker Jr. tacked on 13 points and two steals off of the bench and Isaiah Alexander helped out with 12 points.

Minot State did an excellent job taking care of the basketball, dishing out 11 assists while turning the ball over four times. Individually, Alexander was on top of the distribution list for the Beavers with three assists.

How It Happened

After jumping out to a 22-18 advantage, Minot State went on a 20-0 run with 10:56 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Benjamin, to increase its lead to 42-18. The Beavers then lost some of that lead, but still entered halftime with a 49-30 advantage. Minot State did most of its first half damage in the paint, scoring 26 of its 49 points close to the basket.

Minot State kept its lead intact before going on a 5-0 run, finished off by Alexander's layup, to grow the lead to 54-32 with 17:34 to go in the contest. The narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Beavers still cruised the rest of the way for the 85-78 win. Minot State took care of business in the paint, recording 18 of its 36 points in the lane.

Coaches Comments
Head Coach Randall Herbst after the win, said, "Good team win. Set the tone early on both ends of the floor. Faced some challenges in the second half but were able to show some grit and tough it out. Keep fighting to get better!"
