MINOT, ND --Emma Mogen scored 24 points to help lead the Minot State women's basketball team over the Wayne State College Wildcats 69-59 at home Saturday.
The Beavers (10-19, 9-13) had three players score in double figures, led by Mogen, who had 24 points and seven rebounds. Katie Aberle tacked on 11 points and Jessica Mogen chipped in as well with 11 points, eight rebounds, four assists and four steals off of the bench.
Minot State collected 32 rebounds in Saturday's game compared to Wayne State's 31, led by Jessica Mogen's eight boards.
Minot State forced 18 Wayne State turnovers while committing 15 themselves in Saturday's game. The Beavers turned those takeaways into 18 points on the other end of the floor. Jessica Mogen's four steals led the way for Minot State.
How It Happened
After falling behind 9-4, Minot State went on an 8-0 run with 5:27 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Emma Mogen, to take a 12-9 lead. The Beavers then added five points to that lead by the end of the period and entered the quarter break with a 23-15 advantage. Minot State did most of its first quarter damage in the paint, scoring 14 of its 23 points close to the basket.
The Beavers maintained their lead in the game's second frame and entered halftime with a 37-29 edge. Minot State was strong from deep in the period, knocking down two three-point shots to account for six of its 14 points.
Minot State continued to preserve its halftime lead before going on a 7-0 run to expand its lead further to 56-43 with 48 seconds to go in the third. Before the conclusion of the third period, the Wildcats had cut into that lead somewhat, but the Beavers still entered the fourth quarter with a 56-44 edge. Minot State played well near the basket, scoring 10 of its 19 points in the paint.
Minot State kept its lead intact before going on a 5-0 run to grow the lead to 69-56 with 1:27 to go in the contest. The Wildcats narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Beavers still cruised the rest of the way for the 69-59 win. Minot State took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring eight of its 13 points in the paint.
