Trio of Beavers team up on 3-hit shutout as Minot State splits pair of games

TUCSON, Ariz. – Anthony Disantis, Noah Balandran, and Alex Engel each allowed one hit, leading the way for Minot State on the hill in an 11-0 victory in 7 innings as the Beavers bounced back and split a pair of games Wednesday in Arizona at the Tucson Invitational.
 
Minot State (7-5 overall, 2-2 NSIC) notched an 11-0 win over league rival Northern State in a non-NSIC game to wrap up the day after the Beavers fell 4-3 in 8 innings to Southwest Minnesota State in another non-NSIC contest.
 
The Beavers now get two days off before returning to NSIC play with a pair of neutral-site doubleheaders as Minot State battles Winona State on Saturday and Sunday in Tucson to wrap up two-plus weeks in Arizona.
 
Southwest Minnesota State 4, Minot State 3, 8 innings
TUCSON, Ariz. -- It was a nailbiter on Wednesday, as the Minot State Beavers were unable to push that tying run across in a 4-3 loss to the Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs in a non-NSIC contest.
 
Junior Jake Seibert (0-1) took the loss on the mound for Minot State. Junior Ian Bauer was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going two shutout innings without allowing a hit, walking none and striking out three.
 
Offensively, the Beavers were paced by senior Grant Gabbert, who went 2-for-3 on the day with a double and two RBI. Junior Michael Williamson put together a standout day at the plate as well, going 2-for-3.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Beavers got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the bottom the first inning with the game still scoreless. Minot State got an RBI single from junior Noah Madas, scoring Gabbert from second base.
 
The Beavers then held the Mustangs scoreless before getting back on the board the very next inning. Minot State pushed two runs across on a two-run double off the bat of Gabbert that brought home Williamson and sophomore Noah Gutierrez, which brought the Beavers lead to 3-0. The Beavers were unable to hold the lead, as Southwest Minnesota State scored four times over the remaining six innings to grab the 4-3 win.

Disantis (1-0) started and picked up the win for Minot State, going five shutout innings while giving up one hit, walking one, and striking out five. Engel was dealing out of the bullpen as well, going one shutout inning, allowing one hit, walking none and striking out one.
 
Offensively, the Beavers were paced by senior Grant Gabbert, who went 3-for-4 on the day with a triple and an RBI. Junior Oscar Pegg compiled a standout effort as well, going 1-for-3 with a double and three RBI. Junior Noah Madas also chipped in for Minot State, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate while adding three RBI.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Beavers took the lead for good in the first, scoring for the first time in the inning. Minot State's offense started clicking and put up four runs, including a two-run single off the bat of Madas and a two-run double from Pegg.
 
The Beavers then tacked on runs in four more innings, with their biggest output coming in the second when they scored four times. Connor Hill had an RBI double, Gabbert added an RBI triple, Pegg and an RBI sacrifice fly, and Madas added an RBI single to make it 8-0.
