ST. LOUIS, MO - On Tuesday, March 18, the Minot State Beavers women's hockey team fell to Midland University in a hard fought battle by a final score of 0-1 in overtime. The game against Midland was game one of pool play in the ACHA National Tournament, and the Beavers will compete in game two of pool play tomorrow, Wednesday, March 19, against Indiana Tech at 10:00 am in St. Louis, Missouri.
This game was a battle between the goalies for Minot State and Midland as both teams were held scoreless throughout the first three periods. In the first period, Minot State's goalie,
Jillian Ackerman, tallied 8 saves on 8 shots on goal, and Midland's goalie, Meghan Stewart, tallied 4 saves on 4 shots on goal.
In the second period, Ackerman tallied 5 saves on 5 shots on goal, and Stewart tallied 6 saves on 6 shots on goal.
In the third period, Ackerman tallied 7 saves on 7 shots on goal, and Stewart tallied 13 saves on 13 shots on goal.
Each team's goalie sent the game into overtime with a 0-0 tie throughout the first 60 minutes of play. With a goal scored at 7:34 into the overtime period, Callie Maguire broke the scoreless tie to give Midland University the 0-1 overtime win.
Although the Beavers came up short in such a hard fought game,
Jillian Ackerman had an amazing performance in goal for the Beavers, tallying 20 saves on 20 shots on goal in regulation, and 21 saves on 22 shots on goal throughout the entire game.
Following the first game of pool play in the ACHA National Tournament against Midland University, the Beavers will be back in action tomorrow, Wednesday, March 19, in game two of pool play against Indiana Tech at 10:00 am in St. Louis, Missouri.
