ST. LOUIS, MO - The Minot State Beavers women's hockey team's run in the ACHA National Tournament came to end with a win 5-2 win over Indiana Tech in game 2 of pool play on Wednesday, March 19. Minot State finished pool play with a 1-0-1 record, and the other two teams in their pool were Midland University and Indiana Tech. Midland University finished pool play with a 2-0-0 record, and Indiana Tech finished pool play with a 0-2-0 record. Midland's 2-0-0 pool play record earned them the top spot in the pool, sending them to the semifinals.
The Beavers opened up the scoring at 10:52 into the first period on a power play goal scored by
Journey Miller to take a 1-0 lead. Minot State's goalie,
Haylie Biever held Indiana Tech scoreless through the first period, tallying 4 saves on 4 shots on goal.
The Beavers erupted for three goals in the second period to take the lead for good. At 8:29 into the period, the Beavers took a 2-0 lead on a goal scored by
Maddie Beek. At 10:33 into the period, the Beavers extended their lead to 3-0 on a goal scored by
Journey Miller, her second goal of the game. At 13:18 into the period, the Beavers increased their lead to 4-0 on a goal scored by
Abby Tallman.
Haylie Biever and
Jillian Ackerman combined for 10 saves on 10 shots on goal in the second period to keep Indiana Tech scoreless through the first two periods.
The Beavers opened up the third period by adding to their lead on a goal scored by
Paige Kozak at 4:38 into the period to take a 5-0 lead. Indiana Tech scored their first goal of the game at 19:10 into the period on a power play goal scored by Hailey Anderson to make it a 5-1 Beaver lead. At 19:37 into the period, Indiana Tech made it a 5-2 game on a goal scored by Arina Jusczak. The Beavers went on to shut down Indiana Tech in the remaining 23 seconds to take a 5-2 victory.
