TUCSON, Ariz. – It's been the hot spot for Beaver Athletics over the past few weeks – literally – and now the Minot State track and field teams are the latest team to head to Arizona.
The Beavers open the outdoor track and field season at the Willie Williams Classic hosted by the University of Arizona on Friday and Saturday, swinging back into action after three weeks off following the NSIC Indoor Championships.
And a full contingent of Minot State student-athletes will make the trip to the "Grand Canyon State" to race, jump, and throw against a field packed with NCAA Division I competitors.
Action gets underway Friday at 1 p.m. (Arizona time) with field events, and action on the track begins at 5 p.m. The meet concludes Saturday with field events beginning at 8 a.m., and running events starting at 10 a.m.
The first outdoor meet of the spring, the Beavers reset for a new season but still look for their top indoor performers in the sprints and distance events to lead the way.
That includes now two-time NSIC Champion
Bailey Wride who will race in the women's 800 and 1,500 meters this weekend. Wride claimed the NSIC title in the 1,000 meters three weeks ago, her second NSIC title as she won the 600 meters at the 2023-24 NSIC Indoor Championships, as well.
Also in action for the Minot State women will be
Summer Krebsbach in the 100 and 200 meters, and distance runners
Sidra Sadowsky in the 3,000 and
Paulette Dominguez in the 5,000. Krebsbach set NCAA Division II-era school records in the 60 and 200 meters indoors this past winter while Sadowsky set an NCAA school record in the mile, and Dominguez earned All-NSIC honors in cross country this past fall.
On the men's side, sprinters and hurdlers
Ramon Duran and
Zaccharius Brown, who will race in the 400 meters and 400-meter hurdles, look to lead the way along with distance runner
Peyton Tuhy, who will run the 800 and 1,500.
Duran set an all-time school record and earned All-NSIC honors in the 400 hurdles last spring while Brown set an indoor NCAA school record in the men's 200 and Tuhy set an indoor NCAA record in the 1,000 this past winter.
