TUCSON, Ariz. – Junior
Summer Krebsbach and sophomore
Bailey Wride have been star leaders for the Minot State track and field team for some time now, so it was no surprise Friday they led the way once again for the Beavers.
Krebsbach broke her own all-time school record in the women's 200 meters while Wride broke the NCAA Division II-era record in the women's 1,500 meters on Friday as Minot State opened the outdoor track and field season at the Willie Williams Classic hosted by the University of Arizona.
Minot State is back in action at the NCAA Division I-packed meet on Saturday.
Krebsbach, who set the all-time Minot State record in the 200 indoors back on February 1 at the UND Open, added the outdoor record in the event as well as she finished 39
th Friday in 25.28 seconds. She broke her own record time of 25.38 she ran last season.
Krebsbach's top time in the event is 25.03, the indoor school record she ran in February.
While she broke her own record, Wride broke the record of her teammate
Sidra Sadowsky in the women's 1,500 meters on Friday as she finished 8
th in 4 minutes, 42.37 seconds. Sadowsky's previous D-II era record was 4:43.82.
Of course, Sadowsky had a successful outdoor season debut herself, though not in the 1,500. Instead, the Beaver senior finished 2
nd on the day in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase in 11:41.26 in her first time competing in the event.
The season opener outdoors for the Beavers provided a few other Minot State student-athletes the chance for firsts – specifically their collegiate debut as
Ava Ruthven finished 16
th in her first-ever meet in the javelin with a throw of 109 feet, 10 inches, and on the men's side,
Lucas Parslow made his collegiate debut in the javelin as well, finishing 34
th with a throw of 134-9.
Adding top performances on the men's side for Minot State were
Ramon Duran in the 400 hurdles, and
Marco Murillo in the 3,000 steeplechase. Duran was 12
th in 54.01 on Friday and Murillo was 16
th in 10:27.57.
