Minot State splits with rival Beavers of Bemidji State

BEMIDJI, Minn. -- Minot State finished with a split today against their rival Beavers of Bemidji State. Minot State, now 14-8, will now look towards their next games against the University of Minnesota Crookston, which will take place tomorrow starting at noon. 

GAME 1 | Bemidji State 2, Minot State 1

BEMIDJI, Minn. --Bemidji State's one-run seventh proved to be the difference in the ballgame, as the Minot State Beavers lost a tough one to the Beavers by the score of 2-1 on Friday.

Senior Reegan Floyd (13-7) started and took the loss in the circle for Minot State (25-19, 13-8). The right-hander went 6.2 innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on nine hits, allowing two walks and striking out three.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 1-0, the Beavers first put runs on the board in the seventh inning. Minot State got an RBI single from junior Taylor Smith, scoring senior Abbey Kelley from second base. Bemidji State then scored one time in the bottom half of the seventh to break the tie and grab the 2-1 win.

BEMIDJI, Minn. --The Minot State Beavers took a 1-0 lead in the first inning and never surrendered the advantage on the way to a 5-3 win over the Bemidji State Beavers on Friday.

Senior Jasmine Blizzard (11-7) started in the circle and picked up the win for Minot State (26-19, 14-8). The right-hander went seven innings, giving up three runs, two earned, on six hits, allowing one walk and striking out three.

In the batter's box, the Beavers were led by junior Sara Van Wickler, who went 2-for-3 on the day with two RBI. Junior Mallory Hoogensen compiled a standout day at the dish as well, going 1-for-3 with two RBI. Senior Sophie Sparrow also chipped in for Minot State, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate while adding a double.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Beavers got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the top of the first inning. Junior Taylor Smith came across to score the lone run of the inning for Minot State and get them on the board.

The Beavers then held the Bemidji State Beavers scoreless before expanding their lead in the fourth inning. Minot State picked up two runs when a single from Hoogensen scored freshman Sarah Misner and senior Abby Lohse, which brought the score to 3-0 in favor of the Beavers.

Bemidji State fought back to even the ballgame at three before Minot State reclaimed a 4-3 advantage in the fifth inning. The Beavers scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Van Wickler.

Minot State kept the Bemidji State Beavers scoreless before building on their lead in the seventh inning.
