Minot State’s Kaydee Boyce hits 3 PRs on opening day of NSIC heptathlon

DULUTH, Minn. – Minot State freshman Kaydee Boyce turned in three of her best performances on the biggest stage of the season Thursday, running, jumping, and throwing her way into 10th place in the heptathlon at the NSIC Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Minnesota Duluth.

Boyce scored 2,532 points on the day through four events and sits 581 points behind heptathlon leader Mehlayna Straub of Concordia, St. Paul with three events left on Friday. The seven-event competition concludes with the 800 meters, the long jump, and the javelin on Friday.

Thursday, Minot State's freshman multi-eventer from Nedrose High School turned in personal-best performances in the 200 meters, finishing 8th in 26.83 seconds, and in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing 13th in 16.06 seconds.

She also matched her personal best in the high jump by clearing 4 feet, 6.25 inches.

Boyce also added a 2nd-place finish in the heptathlon's shot put on the day with a throw of 36 feet, 8.5 inches.

The only Beaver student-athlete in competition on the first day of the NSIC Championships, the rest of the Minot State track and field teams begin action Friday as the individual field and track events get underway.
