Head coach Ian Shields shared his thoughts following the week 2 matchup against Minnesota State, Mankato:
"Let me start by saying that there are no moral victories here- we had opportunities to make that outcome different and should have. We turned the ball over twice on offense, once on the 1 yard line going in. Didn't convert on 4th down twice on offense and we didn't get them off the field in some critical situations defensively. We must do a better job executing on 3rd & 4th downs to beat good people. Mankato is a quality program with a loaded roster, we have a ton of respect for them and the way they operate- they are ranked in the Top 10 for a reason and had a deep playoff run last year. I will say we played with much better effort collectively than a week ago and played more physical brand of football. There were some heroic efforts out there today on both sides of the ball, and certainly some positives to build on moving forward. We have played two excellent teams on the road to start this season and there is a lot of football in front of us. We have a resilient group of men that will no doubt be excited to finally be back home at The Herb."
