MINOT, N.D. – The Minot State women's hockey team continued to dominate in-state rival Jamestown, despite a determined effort by the Jimmies at the comeback.
The 5
th-ranked Beavers (9-6-5 overall, 7-6-1 WMCH) controlled the first two periods on Saturday, then fended off 10
th-ranked Jamestown's comeback effort in the third to score a 3-2 win at the All Seasons Arena.
With the win, Minot State improved to 27-0 all-time against the Jimmies and completed a weekend sweep as the Beavers topped Jamestown (4-11-1, 3-11-1) 2-0 on Friday. The win also gives 9
th-year head coach
Ryan Miner 199 career victories on the bench for the Beavers.
Minot State goes for career win No. 200 for Coach Miner when it next hits the ice, hosting Indiana Tech next Friday and Saturday nights at the All Seasons Arena, with puck-drop at 7:30 p.m. both evenings.
Journey Miller got things rolling Saturday, as she scored a short-handed goal for the Beavers 13 minutes, 46 seconds into the contest off assists from
Paige Kozak and
Makenna Beard.
Payton Lang made it a 2-0 game 8:28 into the second period, finishing off assists from
Addison Dyck and
Makayla Peters, and it looked like it might be another scoreless night for Jamestown as the game went into the third with Minot State on top, 2-0.
But the Jimmies drew closer when Maddison Andrew scored 7:42 into the third, but Beard answered just 49 seconds later for Minot State, off assists by
Olivia Kirwan and Miller, scoring what proved to be the game-winner.
Jamestown added a final goal with 8:46 remaining.
Jillian Ackerman finished with 22 saves in goal in the win for Minot State.
