Minot State rallies from second-half deficit to take down Sioux Falls 83-65

SIOUX FALLS, SD --The Minot State women's basketball team rallied from an 11-point deficit at 48-37 with 5:07 remaining in the third quarter to take down the Sioux Falls Cougars 83-65 on the road Saturday

The Beavers (8-11, 5-7) had five players score in double figures, led by Taryn Hamling, who had 30 points and three steals. Tiyahna Trottier tacked on 13 points and four assists and Jessica Mogen helped out with 13 points, six assists and two steals.

Minot State utilized fantastic ball movement in Saturday's game, piling up 18 assists on 29 made field goals. Mogen's six assists paced the Beavers and Trottier also contributed with four assists of her own.

The Minot State defense was effective at taking away the basketball in Saturday's game, forcing 15 Sioux Falls turnovers while committing 10. Those takeaways turned into 14 points on the other end of the floor. Hamling's three steals led the way individually for the Beavers.

How It Happened

Minot State struggled out of the gate, falling behind 23-15 at the end of the first quarter.

The Beavers continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 38-23 halftime deficit.

After intermission, Minot State cut its deficit to 50-42 before going on an 8-0 run, punctuated by a three from Hamling, to tie things up at 50 with six seconds to go in the third, a score which remained until the end of the third quarter. Minot State knocked down seven three-pointers in the quarter to score 21 of its 27 total points.

Minot State kept it close before going on a 14-0 run to seize a 69-55 lead with 5:44 to go in the contest. The Beavers kept expanding the margin and coasted the rest of the way for the 83-65 win. Minot State fired away from deep in the quarter, knocking down six shots to account for 18 of its 33 points.
