MINOT, N.D. – A day after settling for a scoreless tie, the Beavers came out strong and hungry Saturday against the Midland Warriors.
That led to a pair of first-period goals, both by
Cameron Schmidt, as the 4
th-ranked Beavers grabbed a 2-1 win over the 2
nd-ranked Warriors to close out the weekend at the Maysa Arena.
Schmidt put Minot State (13-6-7 overall, 9-6-3 WMCH) on top 1-0 with 7 minutes, 48 seconds gone when she finished off assists from
Olivia Opheim and
Payton Lang.
The Beavers maintained that one-goal lead until the fleeting moments of the opening period when Schmidt finished off a pass from
Abby Tallman with 17 seconds left until the intermission, a power-play goal for a 2-0 lead.
There it stayed as
Jillian Ackerman turned aside shot after shot, finishing the game with 23 saves.
The only puck to get past her closed the gap to 2-1 with 7:07 left to play, but that was as close as Midland would get.
Minot State returns to the ice to host Minnesota on February 13 and 14 at the Maysa Arena to close out the regular season.
