MINOT, ND – The Minot State women's hockey team travels to Fremont, Nebraska, this weekend for a two-game series against Midland University. The Beaver men's hockey team will also face the Warriors in a two-game series Friday and Saturday.
Minot State enters the weekend with a 3-0-1 record, with its only non-win coming in a tie against Sault College last weekend. The Beavers earned a shootout victory in that contest, officially counted as a tie, but will look to build on their strong start against an undefeated Midland squad.
The Warriors enter the series with an 8-0 record, combining a potent offensive attack with strong defensive play. Minot State will look to counter that success with its physical style of play and balanced scoring attack.
Leading the way offensively for the Beavers are Kinley Brassard, Jade Olszewski and Kaitlyn Snyder, who have each recorded two goals through the team's first four games. Claire Hudson, Paige Crossley, Karlyn Gudz and Abby Tallman have also contributed two points apiece, highlighting the depth of Minot State's offense.
The Beavers have also benefited from strong goaltending from junior Jillian Ackerman, who has been a key presence in the crease. Through her first four games, Ackerman has posted a 0.73 goals-against average, a .962 save percentage and one shutout, allowing just three goals total.
Following the shootout victory over Sault College, Minot State will look to carry that momentum into a challenging matchup against an undefeated Midland team.
The Beavers open the series Friday at 5 p.m. before returning to the ice Saturday for a 4 p.m. puck drop in Fremont, Nebraska.
