MINOT, N.D. – The Minot State women's hockey team started "Senior Weekend" with a dominating performance Friday afternoon at the Maysa Arena.
Journey Miller,
Makenna Beard, and
Cameron Schmidt – three of the players to be honored during "Senior Day" ceremonies on Saturday – scored a goal each as the 3
rd-ranked Beavers beat Minnesota 7-0.
Freshman goalie
Bailey Grunewald added 9 saves for her first collegiate shutout and fourth win in net this season for Minot State, which hosts Minnesota again Saturday at 3:45 p.m. for "Senior Day."
The Beavers (14-6-7 overall, 10-6-3 WMCH) will honor Miller, Beard, Schmidt, and teammates
Maddie Beek,
Olivia Opheim, and
Abby Tallman between the first and second periods on Saturday when they play their final home game for Minot State.
Miller got things started with the eventual game-winner just 5 minutes, 22 seconds into Friday's action, a short-handed goal, before back-to-back goals by
Paige Kozak made it 3-0 midway through the game.
Minot State then kept tacking on the offense as
Krissy Rink,
Olivia Kirwan, Beard, and Schmidt each scored for the final 7-0 difference.
