JAMESTOWN, N.D. – The Beavers' first tune-up test before the ACHA National Tournament went very well Friday night on the road.
The 3rd-ranked Minot State women's hockey team scored an early power-play goal, then kept the pressure on for a 5-1 win at Jamestown.
The same two teams play again Saturday night, then have 17 days off before opening play at the ACHA National Tournament on March 18 in Maryland Heights, Missouri.
Journey Miller continued her strong second-half tear as she netted her 17
th of the season, and 14 since the start of the new calendar year, for a 1-0 lead just 5 minutes, 55 seconds into the contest.
Cameron Schmidt had the assist on the power-play goal.
The lead stayed 1-0 until early in the second period when Minot State (17-7-7) struck twice, quickly, as
Payton Lang scored 5:48 into the session, then just 1:13 later, Kaitlyn Synder pushed the Beavers' advantage to a comfortable 3-0 margin.
Maddie Beek and
Paige Crossley assisted on Lang's goal, while
Olivia Opheim had the helper on Snyder's score.
The host Jimmies closed the gap briefly with a power-play goal early in the third but could get no closer than 3-1, as Minot State iced it as
Erica Fijala scored with 4:16 left and
Kinley Brassard added a final goal with 25 seconds to play. Miller assisted on both late goals for Minot State.
Jillian Ackerman finished with 29 saves in goal in the win for the Beavers.
