Minot State continued play at the Space Coast Spring Games on Tuesday with a split, falling 1-0 to D'Youville before bouncing back with a 3-1 victory over Thomas More in Viera, Florida. The Beavers move to 10-6 overall after a strong pitching performance from Taylor Kruse in the opener and a complete-game win from Katie Newberry in the finale. Minot State will look to carry the momentum from the win into the remainder of tournament play.

VIERA, Fla. — A strong pitching performance from junior Taylor Kruse wasn't enough for the Minot State Beavers, who were edged 1-0 by the D'Youville Saints on Tuesday.
Kruse (2-2) took the tough-luck loss in the circle for Minot State (9-6). The right-hander delivered 7.2 innings, allowing just one run on three hits while walking one and striking out two.
Mallory Hoogensen led the Beavers at the plate, going 1-for-3 with a double.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Minot State had limited opportunities offensively in the pitcher's duel, managing just one chance with a runner on third base. The Beavers went 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position and last threatened in the seventh inning when Lanae Kimbley reached third with one out.
D'Youville made its lone run stand up behind a combined shutout effort from Kendal Lehne and Summer Clark to secure the 1-0 victory.

VIERA, Fla. — The Minot State Beavers used timely hitting and a strong outing from junior Katie Newberry to secure a 3-1 win over the Thomas More Saints on Tuesday.
Newberry (4-1) earned the win for Minot State (10-6), tossing a complete game while allowing one run on three hits with one walk and four strikeouts.
Sara Van paced the Beavers offensively, going 1-for-2 with a triple and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Minot State opened the scoring in the second inning when senior Mallory Hoogensen drove in a run with an RBI double to give the Beavers a 1-0 lead.
The Beavers added insurance in the third inning, plating two runs highlighted by Van's RBI triple to extend the advantage to 3-0.
Thomas More pushed across one run late, but Newberry and the Beavers held on to secure the 3-1 victory.
