Minot State falls to Minnesota State in doubleheader

ELKHORN, Neb. -- The Minot State baseball team battled but fell 8-1 and 4-1 in an NSIC doubleheader to host and 23rd-ranked Minnesota State, Mankato on Friday in a series played in Elkhorn, Neb.

Minot State (8-8 overall, 4-4 NSIC) looks to close the weekend strong when the two teams play a final game on Saturday.

GAME 1 | Minnesota State 8, Minot State 1
ELKHORN, Neb. -- Junior Cowen Meyer went 1-for-2 with a home run and an RBI for the Minot State Beavers in an 8-1 loss to the Minnesota State Mavericks on Friday.

Sophomore Wyatt Toth (2-1) started and took the loss on the mound for Minot State.

At the plate, the Beavers were led by Meyer, who went 1-for-2 on the day with a home run and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 8-0, the Beavers first put runs on the board in the sixth inning. Meyer put Minot State on the board with a one-out solo home run off junior Sam George. The Beavers were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.

ELKHORN, Neb. -- Junior Jorey Anderson strung together three hits, but the Minot State Beavers fell to the Minnesota State Mavericks 4-1 Friday.

Junior Colton Bagshaw (1-2) got the ball to start for Minot State and took the loss. Freshman Tanner Groseclose was a bright spot for the Beavers, coming out of the bullpen and throwing one shutout inning, allowing one hit.

In addition to his three hits, Anderson had a double to lead the Beavers.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 1-0, the Beavers first put runs on the board in the fifth inning. Anderson came across to score the lone run of the inning after an error on a double steal four Minot State and get them on the board. Minnesota State then scored three times over the remaining four innings to break the tie and grab the 4-1 win.
