Beavers Sweep Saturday Behind Fournier Shutout, Newberry Win

Minot State continued play at the Space Coast Spring Games on Saturday with a pair of victories, defeating Felician 5-2 before rolling to a 9-0 shutout over Southern Connecticut State in Viera, Florida. The Beavers improve to 13-7 overall after strong performances from Katie Newberry in the opener and a dominant complete-game shutout from Kierra Fournier in the finale. Minot State used timely hitting and strong pitching throughout the day to secure the sweep.


Minot State 5, Felician 2
VIERA, Fla. — The Minot State Beavers jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, defeating the Felician Golden Falcons 5-2 on Saturday.
Junior Katie Newberry (5-1) earned the win in the circle for Minot State (12-7). The right-hander went the distance, allowing two runs, one earned, on five hits while walking none and striking out four.
Sophomore Ellington Anderson led the Beavers at the plate with a standout performance, going 3-for-4 with two triples and two RBIs.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Minot State opened the scoring in the first inning when Anderson came around to score to give the Beavers a 1-0 lead.
After Felician tied the game at 1-1, Minot State answered in the second inning with a three-run frame. Anderson highlighted the inning with a two-run single to push the Beavers ahead 4-1.
Felician trimmed the lead to 4-2 before Minot State added an insurance run in the fourth inning on an RBI single from senior Sara Van Wickler. The Beavers held the Golden Falcons scoreless the rest of the way to secure the 5-2 victory.

VIERA, Fla. — Senior Kierra Fournier delivered a dominant performance in the circle Saturday, tossing a four-hit shutout to lead the Minot State Beavers to a 9-0 win over the Southern Connecticut State Fighting Owls.
Fournier (2-2) went the distance for Minot State (13-7), allowing just four hits while walking two and striking out two.
Senior Raivyn Millions led the Beavers offensively, finishing 2-for-3 with a double, a walk and three RBIs. Sophomore Brooke Hyde also had a big day at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a triple and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Minot State took the lead in the second inning when Millions delivered an RBI single as part of a two-run frame to give the Beavers a 2-0 advantage.
The Beavers continued to add to their lead throughout the game, scoring in four more innings. Their biggest offensive push came in the sixth inning when Minot State plated two runs, highlighted by Hyde's run-scoring single.
Behind Fournier's strong outing in the circle, the Beavers held Southern Connecticut State scoreless to secure the 9-0 victory.
