Beavers split doubleheader with No. 15 Augustana

Minot State split Saturday's doubleheader against No. 15 Augustana (SD) in Sioux Falls, falling 17-3 in game one before rallying for a 10-6 win in game two to move to 10-14 on the season. The Beavers showed resilience in the nightcap, erasing a five-run deficit with a six-run seventh inning to secure the victory in conference play. SIOUX FALLS, S.D. --The Minot State Beavers struggled on Saturday, falling to the No. 15 Augustana (SD) Vikings 17-3 despite the efforts of junior Vinnie Gates, who went 1 for 4 with an RBI.

Junior Ayden Sauerbrei (2-2) got the ball to start for Minot State (9-14, 4-9) and took the loss. Freshman Toby Fosterwas a bright spot for the Beavers, coming out of the bullpen and throwing three scoreless innings, allowing one hit, with three walks and four strikeouts.

Trailing 17-0, the Beavers first put runs on the board in the fifth inning. The Beavers were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.

Senior Conner Meldrim (3-1) got the win out of the bullpen for Minot State (10-14, 5-9). The right-hander went four innings, giving up two runs, one earned, on one hit, allowing two walks and striking out three.

Offensively, the Beavers were paced by junior Colton Bagshaw, who went 2-for-4 on the day with a home run and an RBI. Senior Jake Orthner compiled a noteworthy day at the dish as well, going 2-for-3 with a walk and two RBIs. Senior Michael Williamson also chipped in for Minot State, putting together one hit in four trips to the plate while adding a double and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 3-0, the Beavers first put runs on the board in the fourth inning. Senior Noah Madas came across to score the lone run of the inning for Minot State and get them on the board.

The Beavers deficit grew to 6-1 before their offense got back on the scoreboard, taking over the lead in the seventh inning. The Minot State offense exploded for six runs, highlighted by a two-run single off the bat of Orthner, which brought the Beavers lead to 7-6.
