Minot State Falls to Malone, Ursuline on Opening Day in Florida

Minot State opened play at the Space Coast Spring Games on Monday with a pair of tough losses, falling 7-2 to Malone and 2-0 to Ursuline in Viera, Florida. The Beavers move to 9-5 overall after the opening day of tournament play, despite strong individual performances from Sarah Misner at the plate and Katie Newberry in the circle. Minot State will look to bounce back Tuesday when the Beavers return to the field for matchups against D'Youville and Thomas More.

, Fla. --The Minot State Beavers got a big game from sophomore Sarah Misner, who collected two extra base hits in a 7-2 loss to the Malone Pioneers Monday.
Senior Kierra Fournier (1-2) started and took the loss in the circle for Minot State (9-4).
Misner's two extra base hits were the highlight of a 2-for-3 day, and included a double, a home run and an RBI. Senior Raivyn Millions compiled a standout performance at the plate as well, going 2-for-3 with a double. Sophomore Ellington Anderson also chipped in for the Beavers, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Beavers were trailing 1-0 in the third inning when they first put runs on the board. Anderson came across to score the lone run of the inning for Minot State and get them on the board.
The Pioneers broke the tie and re-took the lead heading into the sixth inning, when the Beavers got back on the scoreboard. Minot State picked up a run on Misner's one-out solo home run off of freshman Summer McCaw, which brought the score to 6-2 in favor of the Pioneers. The Beavers were unable to get any closer, as Malone added one run to their tally on the way to a 7-2 final.
