Minot State men’s hockey adds star Bottineau forward Colton Getzlaff

MINOT, N.D. – The Minot State men's hockey continues to hit the recruiting trail hard as Beavers head coach Wyatt Waselenchuk is pleased to introduce a local star who will be joining the team in the fall of 2026.

Coach Waselenchuk announced today that former Bottineau-Rugby high school forward Colton Getzlaff has committed to Minot State and will be a freshman on the ice and in the classroom this coming season.

"I am honored and excited to commit to Minot State University," said Getzlaff, a 2024 graduate of Bottineau High School. "It is a pleasure to return to my home state and play for such a successful program in Minot, while taking the next step in my academic journey. I would like to thank my family, teammates, and coaches for all their support throughout my hockey career."

The former Bottineau Brave spent the past season with the Estevan Bruins of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL), where he had 14 goals and 25 assists in 59 games, which included 4 playoff games.

Prior to playing with Estevan, Getzlaff played two seasons for the Battlefords North Stars of the SJHL, netting 25 goals and adding 22 assists in 90 games over those two seasons, which included 12 playoff games.

"Colton is a young man that we have really had an eye on for the past couple of seasons, as he grew up playing just down the road in Bottineau," Waselenchuk said.

"He's a big body (6-foot, 190 pounds) that plays a fantastic 200-foot game," Minot State's coach added. "His mindfulness in the defensive zone and work ethic is what really stood out to us; however, he is also a guy that we will rely on in the future to help produce offensively. He fits the mold tremendously in terms of what we look for in a player.

"We are very excited to welcome Colton and his family to Minot State."

Getzlaff is the third new addition introduced by Coach Waselenchuk this spring. He joins defenseman Ryley Cyca, who was announced earlier this month, and forward Cooper Kasprick, who was introduced last month.
