Beaver pitching dominates as Minot State beats St. Cloud State twice, 2-0

ST. CLOUD, Minn. -- Minot State's pitching staff dominated on Sunday, leading the way to a pair of 2-0 wins in NSIC play over host St. Cloud State.

The Beavers (16-21 overall, 11-16 NSIC) play a final NSIC contest at St. Cloud State on Monday at 1 p.m., then return home to host Northern State at Corbett Field in an NSIC doubleheader on Wednesday.


GAME 1 | Minot State 2, Saint Cloud State 0
ST. CLOUD, Minn. -- Junior Ayden Sauerbrei was dealing on Sunday, throwing a four-hit shutout to lead the Minot State Beavers past the Saint Cloud State Huskies 2-0.

Sauerbrei (3-2) went the distance for Minot State, giving up four hits, walking two and striking out six.

At the plate, the Beavers were paced by junior Cowen Meyer, who went 1-for-3 on the day with a home run and two RBIs. Junior Colton Bagshaw furnished a standout day at the plate as well, going 1-for-3 with a triple. Senior Michael Williamson also helped out for Minot State, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate while adding a double.

The Beavers took the lead for good in the first, scoring for the first and only time in the inning. Minot State plated two runs when Meyer left the yard with senior Noah Madas aboard.

ST. CLOUD, Minn. -- Sophomore Wyatt Toth and senior Conner Meldrim combined to toss a shutout on Sunday as the Minot State Beavers blanked the Saint Cloud State Huskies 2-0.

Toth (3-3) started and picked up the win for Minot State, going eight shutout innings while giving up five hits, walking none, and striking out six. Meldrim was dealing out of the bullpen as well, going one shutout inning without allowing a hit, walking none and striking out one to earn hsi second save this season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Beavers took the lead for good in the third, scoring for the first and only time in the inning. Junior Colton Bagshaw's run-scoring single highlighted a two-run inning for Minot State. Noah Madas added an RBI sacrifice fly in the inning.
