BISMARCK, N.D. – Freshmen
Jacob Jackson and
Kaiya Chell led the way for the Beavers in the team's final regular-season outdoor track and field meet on Wednesday, each picking up a win at the Marauders Tune-Up hosted by the University of Mary.
Jackson raced to the win in the men's 800 meters in 1 minute, 59.06 seconds, leading the way for the Minot State men's track and field team.
Meanwhile, Chell picked up the win in the women's shot put with a career-best throw of 38 feet, 0.25 inches, then added a second-place finish in the discus with another career-best mark of 124 feet, 4 inches, leading the way for the Minot State women's track and field team.
The meet was the final competition for the Beavers prior to the NSIC Outdoor Championship, held May 7-9, and hosted by Minnesota Duluth.
While Jackson led the way in the men's 800 for Minot State, teammate
Zander Grover added one of many top-5 finishes, as well, as he was 3
rd in the men's 800 in 1:59.41, fractions of a second behind his teammate.
Holter Bridwell added a 2
nd-place finish for the Minot State men in the 1,500 meters, clocking a time of 4:10.07 in the event, and freshman thrower
Braxton Rance had a career-best performance as he finished 3
rd in the men's shot put with a throw of 44 feet, 10.25 inches.
On the women's side,
Julie Folk and
Addyson Wendt added two more top-5 finishes in the 1,500 meters as Folk was 3rd in 5:19.72 and Wendt 4
th in 5:43.01, while
Bailey Wride added a 5
th-place finish in the women's 400 meters in 1:00.03.
And the Beaver women's throwers added two more top-5 finishes as Madi Schuck, who also competes for the Minot State women's wrestling team, was 4
th in the discus with a mark of 99-7, and
Jamie Ward was 5th in the shot put with a throw of 34-11.75.
