Biography

2015-16: Started in all 29 games... Averaged 8.6 points, 3.2 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game... Added 26 steals and four blocks on the year... Ranked eighth in the NSIC in assist to turnover ratio (2.2). 

2014-15: Started in all 29 games in second year playing for the Beavers... Averaged 5.7 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game... Added 11 steals on the season... Earned NSIC All-Academic team honors. 

2013-14: Appeared in 26 games as a true freshman from Minot State... Shot 47 percent on the season while averaging 2.5 ppg... Scored a season high six points in back-to-back games against U-Mary (12/30) and Wayne State (1/03).

High School: Played football, basketball and baseball at Devils Lake High... Received Second Team All-State honors as a junior... Averaged 28 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 steals per game and named First Team All-State as a senior... Received A-honor roll honors throughout high school... Graduated with the highest distinction from Devils Lake High.

Personal: Son of Diane and Tom Mertens... Member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC)... Vice President of MSU SAAC... Majoring in physical therapy.
