Shawn Chaffin begins his sixth season as an assistant coach for the Minot State University women’s basketball program in the 2016-17 season.
In the 2015-16 season Chaffin helped coach MSU to an 11-18 and helped Kari Clements become the first ever player to earn NSIC All-Freshman team honors in school history.
He helped the Beavers to a 12-17 record in the 2014-15 season, placing 13th in the conference to end the season.
In 2013-14, he helped Minot State to a 19-9 overall record, including the first ever win against a NCAA Division II ranked opponent. MISU took down No. 13 Augustana College, 88-71 on Jan. 4 in the Minot State Dome.
In 2012-13, Chaffin helped the Beavers to a 13-14 overall record in their first year in the NCAA Division II and Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. He coached Carly Boag, who was named Daktronics All-American Honorable Mention.
The 2011-12 Minot State women's basketball team garnered a major milestone during its transitional year, earning a win over NCAA Division II national qualifier University of Mary. The Beavers were also 5-4 at home and 11-15 overall during the independent year.
Pre Minot State Chaffin was the head coach at UGF from 2006-2010, leading the school to a single season record for wins with 12 in 2007. Before his time at Great Falls, Chaffin was an assistant coach at the University of Montana-Western in Dillon, Mont. At Western, he helped the Bulldogs to three Frontier Conference regular season championships, five tournament championships and six appearances in the NAIA Division I National Tournament, advancing to the quarterfinals in 2002.
As a prep coach, he helped Florence-Carlton High School to the state championship in 1998. He was an assistant coach at Florence-Carlton from 1992-2000.
He has been the past President of the Board of Directors for the Bitterroot Bucs American Legion Baseball program, a NAIA National Tournament Committee Member, Tournament Director of the Las Vegas Shootout NAIA Basketball Tournament and the Frontier Conference men's and women's basketball scheduler.
He handles all aspects of the program but will focus on recruiting for the Beavers.
Prior to joining Minot State, Chaffin worked in the admissions office at Montana State-Northern. He is a 2004 graduate of Montana-Western majoring in Elementary Education.
