BOX SCORE GAME 2

MINOT, N.D. - Minot State University's Jen Dixon (Fr., P/OF, Brandon, Manitoba) used a big swing and steady pitching to earn two wins.
Dixon pitched four innings of relief in game 2 and hit a key 3-run home run to help the Beavers defeat Mayville State 7-5 to complete the sweep of Mayville State in Dakota Athletic Conference softball Wednesday at South Hill Complex. Minot State won game 1 5-0.
The Beavers and Comets played in Minot instead of Mayville as the two teams swapped dates due to poor field conditions in Mayville. Minot will play at Mayville next week instead of at home to make up for the dates.
Home runs were a key for the Beavers in both games as MSU got two dingers in the first game to win 5-0. Deanna Mitchell (Jr., 1B, Portage, Manitoba) and Kyla Thiesen (Jr., 2B, Brandon, Manitoba) both hit home runs - Mitchell's a 2-run shot to start the scoring in the bottom of the first inning.
It was more than enough for MSU started Mandy Greenberg (So., P, Winnipeg, Manitoba). Greenberg pitched seven strong innings, giving up just four hits and no runs, striking out six to earn the win.
Greenberg came back in game 2 and was nearly as effective. She gave up just two hits in three innings of work, but walked five batters and a series of walks, wild pitches and passed balls led to a 3-0 Mayville lead after one inning.
But, the Beavers worked their way back into the game, getting two in the third inning and five in the fourth - three coming off Dixon's blast to right. Dixon leads the team with five home runs, breaking a tie with Mitchell, who hit her fourth in game 1.
Krista Hendricks led the Comets (7-6 DAC, 11-19 overall) with three hits on the day, including two in game 2 and knocked in two runs in the second game. Jessica Flores went 2-for-3 in game 2. Candyce Dallas went 1-for-2 in game 1 for Mayville.
Tiffany Friesen (So., DP/P, Morden, Manitoba) had two hits in game 1, while Mitchell finished with two RBIs. In game 2, Thiesen and Brittany Bartel (So., 3B, Sinclair, Manitoba) had two hits each, while Thiesen knocked in two. Dixon finished with four runs batted in in the game to lead the Beavers.
Minot State (9-2 DAC, 22-7 overall) is scheduled to play four games at Jamestown College Friday and Saturday.
