Smoke, Friesen burn Jimmies

Duo comes up big against former team

Minot State's Ashley Smoke is congratulated by head coach Bill Triplett while the rest of her team awaits at home plate after Smoke hit a solo home run in the Beavers semifinal win over Jamestown College Saturday.
MINOT, N.D. – It always seems like it comes back to bite you.
Minot State University's Tiffany Friesen (So., 3B, Morden, Manitoba) and Ashley Smoke (Jr., C, Portage la Prairie, Manitoba) hurt their former team Jamestown College as the duo finished with three hits and three runs batted in to keep the Beavers undefeated at the Dakota Athletic Conference tournament Saturday at South Hill Complex.
Smoke, who hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth, finished with two hits and two RBIs and Friesen finished with a hit and an RBI. Smoke played for JC last season, while Friesen started her career with the Jimmies two seasons ago.
MSU's Mandy Greenberg (So., P, Winnipeg, Manitoba) gave up a fourth inning run, but was in control much of the way. She finished with a complete game two-hitter, striking out eight.
Celene Eccles finished with both hits for Jamestown College, while Kelsie Jensen drove in the only Jimmies run.
The Beavers (29-8) take an undefeated record into the championship game beginning at 5:30 p.m.
