THIS WEEK:
Minot State University renews another old series as the Beavers take on Northern State University in Aberdeen, S.D., Saturday at 2:30 p.m.

RECORDS: MISU is 1-4 overall and 1-0 in the NSIC North Division. NSU enters the weekend at 2-3 overall and 1-0 in NSIC North play.

COACHES CORNER: Minot State's head coach is Paul Rudolph. Rudolph is 28-27 overall in five seasons with the Beavers and 71-74 overall as a head coach. Tom Dosch is in his third season at Northern State and has a 12-20 overall record at NSU. He is no stranger to Minot State having been the head coach at Jamestown College during the Dakota Athletic Conference days.

FOLLOW THE BEAVERS: The game is broadcast locally on KCJB 910-AM with Scott Kittell calling the play-by-play and former Minot State standout Brendan Weidler on color commentary. Live audio can be accessed online at kcjb.com. MSU provides live video and live stats as well as links to the live audio at msubeavers.com. Minot State Athletics also is active on Facebook, Twitter and You Tube with all feeds accessible through the home page.

RANKINGS: Neither team was ranked in the AFCA Coaches' Top 25 Poll or the DIIFootball.com Top 25 Poll this week.

RECENT HISTORY: The Beavers earned their first win of the season and subsequently the first win as a member of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference with a 32-21 come-from-behind win over the University of Mary Saturday at Herb Parker Stadium. The Wolves held Minnesota State Moorhead to minus-(-40) yards rushing in a 45-7 win, the second straight for NSU.

OVERALL SERIES: Minot State trails Northern State 7-6-1 in the all-time series dating back to 1932 when Aberdeen Northern beat the Beavers 7-0.

NOTING THE WOLVES: Northern State University set a school record last week in holding Minnesota State Moorhead to minus-(-40) yards rushing partly due to eight sacks, the most by any team in the conference in 2012… NSU is a plus-6 on the season in turnover margin, tying it with Wayne State for second best in the conference. The Wolves have nine interceptions and two fumble recoveries on the season… Sophomore quarterback Jared Jacobson set a career high in passing last week, throwing for 280 yards and three touchdowns in the win. He has only thrown one interception in 132 passing attempts this season… NSU has six scoring drives over 10 plays this season with two coming last weekend against Moorhead. The Wolves had their longest drive (by plays) on its second TD drive, covering 84 yards in 14 plays… Northern State is 16 for 19 overall in the red zone, fifth best in the conference… The contest on Saturday is NSU's annual Gypsy Day game – a name the school gives for its Homecoming weekend – and the Wolves are looking for their third straight win in the game.

HISTORY LESSON: Northern State has a two-game winning streak going against the Beavers as they topped MISU 43-6 in 1998 and edged Minot State 40-37 in 1993. The Beavers last win in the series came in 1992 when a Dave Hendrickson-led squad blew out Northern State 55-18.

COLOSSAL COMEBACK: Minot State's 22-point, fourth quarter comeback to top the University of Mary is one of the biggest fourth quarter rallies in recent memory. The Beavers scored three touchdowns in the fourth and added a two-point conversion for the 22 points, eclipsing a 21-point outburst to top Jamestown College in the Dacotah Bank DAC Bowl in 2009. The Beavers scored three TDs against JC in the fourth quarter to erase a 21-17 deficit entering the final quarter. On Saturday against the Marauders it was a 21-10 deficit the Beavers had to overcome.

PICKING HIS TEAM UP: Beavers junior defensive back Jeff Buchert (Plainfield, Conn.) secured MISU's win last week with an interception with just under two minutes to play. Buchert finished the game with 11 tackles and two interceptions and was named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts. Buchert has all three of Minot State's interceptions on the season and is tied for second in the NSIC with .60 interceptions per game.

FIRST FOR BARBER, BEAVERS: Minot State's Randel Barber's (Fr., RB, Maricopa, Ariz.) fourth quarter touchdown was a first for the true freshman running back. But it was also the first rushing TD for the Beavers in 2012. Minot State had gone 179 rushing attempts without finding the end zone on the ground. As for Barber, it was his best day as a Beaver, gaining 48 yards on nine carries, including the 35-yard TD – also a career-high rush. He is second on the team in rushing with 121 yards on 38 carries.

STONEWALLED BY CAMERON: The Beavers had their first multi-sack game as sophomore Cameron Stone (DL, Great Falls, Mont.) had two sacks in the game. Stone, who received a medical redshirt following an injury in 2011, finished off the University of Mary with sacks on each of the final two plays of the game for the Marauders and is the team leader with two. He would have had three in the game, but was flagged for a facemask penalty in the third quarter. Stone ended up with three total tackles.

SPEADING THE BALL AROUND: Minot State freshman quarterback Zac Cunha (Rocklin, Calif.) finished with three TD passes Saturday, hitting three different players for scores. The three, juniors Glyn Borel (WR, San Jose, Calif.) and Wayne Peters (WR, Carson, Calif.), and redshirt freshman Porter Sturm (WR, Roy, Mont.) have been Cunha's favorite targets as the trio have all but 18 of the Beavers' 84 receptions this season and all 10 TDs. Sturm has four touchdown receptions to lead Minot State.

LADEAUX DOES IT ALL: Minot State's Aaron La Deaux (Fr., K/P, Port Orchard, Wash.) has been asked to do just about everything for the Beavers so far this season. The kicker/punter/wide receiver is the Beavers No. 1 kicker and punter, hitting two field goals so far this year including a 49-yard kick. He is also averaging 35.9 yards per punt with a long of 60 yards. His athleticism showed this past week as he rushed for 11 yards and a first down on a fake punt. On the season, LaDeaux has faked three punts, finishing with first downs twice. He has gained a total of 23 yards so far. If that isn't enough, LaDeaux practices with the wide receivers during the week and can be used at that position as a backup.
