MINOT, N.D. – Minot State University exploded for 34 runs as the Beavers pushed its winning streak to eight games with a pair of wins over the University of Regina Friday at South Hill Complex.
MSU shut out the Cougars in game 1 13-0 and finished off the sweep with a 21-1 win in game 2.
While the Beavers' bats were on fire much of the day, MSU pitching was superb as well as
Jen Dixon (So., OF/P, Brandon, Manitoba) and
Keysha Jansen (Jr., P/OF, Melville, Saskatchewan) combined for a no-hitter, facing the minimum in game 1 and Jansen pitched a five-hitter in game 2.
The Beavers finished with 12 hits in game 1, getting at least one from eight players.
Kyla Thiesen (Sr., 2B, Brandon, Manitoba) had two hits and three runs batted in, while
Stacy Fournier (So., SS, Lanley, British Columbia),
Deanna Mitchell (Sr., 1B, Portage, Manitoba) and
Taylor Studler (Fr., ULT, Gross Isle, Manitoba) all finished with two hits. Dixon added two RBIs in the win.
Game 2 saw the Beavers finished with 12 players with a hit and seven with two RBIs or more.
Colleen Bertrand (So., C, Langley, British Columbia) went 3 for 4 with three RBIs and four runs scored while
Melissa Bell (Fr., C, Belgrade, Mont.) went 2 for 3 with two RBIs and three runs scored for MSU.
Jansen didn't need nearly as many runs as she got as the junior struck out 10 batters and gave up just one run in five innings for the Beavers.
MSU (18-10 overall) and Regina will play two more on Saturday beginning at noon at South Hill. The games have been moved up due to forecasted poor weather.
