Minot State falls to Augustana College

The Beavers dropped six consecutive sets this weekend

Box Score SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Minot State University volleyball faced another tough opponent Saturday afternoon.

Again, the Beavers couldn't find a rhythm as they lost to Augustana College (11-5 overall 5-2 NSIC) in straight sets 25-15, 25-17, 25-15. Minot State (4-13 overall 0-7 NSIC) has now lost seven straight Northern Sun matches to begin the first season as an official member.

The Vikings were led by Courtney Ysker with 14 kills with a .464 hitting percentage. As a team, Augustana hit for a blistering .346 average over the three set match.

“They are good hitting team,” said head coach Travis Ward. “We need to do a better job with our attack to put our opponents on their heels a bit more. We are doing enough defensively to keep us in it but we need more on the attack.”

As a team the Beavers hit for a .175 average while making 15 hitting errors.

Senior Shari Hewson (MH, New England, N.D.) led the Beavers with 11 kills and nine digs throughout the match. Sophomore setter Emily Byrne (Reno, Nev.) collected 27 assists on the afternoon.

“This year has been a learning experience so far,” said Ward. “I just hope we can learn the right way and correct our mistakes and move on as quick as possible. We have a good group and I want to see this team do well.”

MISU will continue conference play at home as they will play host to St. Cloud State University on Oct. 5 (7 p.m.) and also to national powerhouse University of Minnesota Duluth on Oct. 6 (3 p.m.).
