The Beavers are now 3-6 overall

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MINOT, N.D.- Minot State University volleyball lost two matches on Saturday afternoon in the final day of the Black Hills State University Tournament.

In match one of the day, the Beavers fell to Briar Cliff (Iowa) in four sets: 26-28, 20-25, 25-22, 13-25.

"We haven't started a match really well yet this season," said head coach Travis Ward. "We are a young team and it needs to be in our mindset that we need to play well the entire match."

The Beavers were led by freshman Mallory Sall (OH, Port Coquitlam, British Columbia) with 14 kills and nine digs. Senior Shari Hewson (MH, New England, N.D.) and freshman Tarah Dabovich (MH, Phoenix, Ariz.) each had nine kills for Minot State in the loss.

Ashley Heavenor (Fr., L, Cochrane, Alberta) led the team with 18 digs and sophomore setter Emily Byrne (Reno, Nev.) had 36 assists in the match.

In match two of the day versus Colorado Christian University; it was another slow start that doomed the Beavers as they lost in five sets.

"We started slow again, but I am proud of the way our team battled back and didn't give up," said Ward. "Jasmin Pappa (Fr., OH, Stanley, N.D.) provided a boost of energy off the bench in the second match. She showed a lot today and we want her on the court more."

Minot State will open their Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference schedule at home when they play host to Bemidji State on Sept. 14 and University of Minnesota, Crookston on Sept. 15.
