Sall swats 17; Beavers fall in four

Mallory Sall hit the ball dominantly with 17 kills Saturday night in the loss to St. Cloud State

Box Score MINOT, N.D. – The Minot State volleyball team has outhit by St. Cloud State 3-of-4 sets Saturday night in the Minot State Dome.

The Beavers (7-11 overall, 3-6 NSIC) won the set they outhit the Huskies (12-5 overall, 6-3 NSIC), but in the end Minot State didn't have the fire power to take down SCSU as they fell 25-19, 25-14, 23-25, 25-15.

In the loss, sophomore Mallory Sall (OH, Port Coquitlam, British Columbia) was superb as she collected a match-high 17 kills while committing just three errors. This marked the seventh game this season Sall has eclipsed the 15 kill mark.

"Mallory played really good tonight," said Beaver head coach Travis Ward. "She was on her game from the start and that's always great to see. We just can't expect to win in this conference when we only have one person playing like that. It takes a team effort and that's something I can say we have on most nights."

Jen Dixon (Jr., OH, Brandon, Manitoba) was the only other Beaver to reach double digit kills with 11, but she needed 40 attempts to do so while forcing seven errors. Defensively, Whitney Hightower (Jr., L, Jefferson, Ore.) led MISU with 17 digs.

St. Cloud State hit .293 for the match, as they were led by Dani Domeier with 15 kills while Ellie Dietzen pitched in with 10 kills of her own.

"You can blame the loss on a lot of things," said Ward. "And I take full responsibility for that, but we just have to play to our potential and do it more often."

Minot State, who has now dropped three straight matches, will look to end their losing streak on Friday Oct. 18 as they face off against University of Minnesota, Crookston (8-9 overall, 3-6 NSIC) from Crookston, Minn.
