Minot State downs Comets in four

The Beavers beat old DAC-10 foe Mayville State in non-conference action Wednesday night

Box Score MINOT, N.D. – The Minot State University volleyball team needed four sets to take down old Dakota Athletic Conference foe Mayville State Wednesday night in the Minot State Dome.

The Beavers beat the Comets (19-17 overall, 6-2 NAA) 25-15, 14-25, 25-19, 25-15 in non-conference play, improving their record to 11-13 overall.

"I think there were some things we did really well and some things we did kind of half-way," said Minot State head coach Travis Ward. "It was nice to get out with a win tonight and obviously they are a nice team, but we need to use this as a learning experience showing we have to go one match at a time."

After Minot State played dominantly in set one, the Comets fired back at the Beavers and hit a blistering .429 from the floor in set two, beating MISU by 11 points.

"I don't think we played our best tonight," said Ward. "I think our team knows that and I know that. We just need to stay focused and play in system."

After the intermission, the Beavers came out a more focused team and outhit Mayville State .317 to .258 in set three and .375 to .133 in set four to pick up the win.

A trio of Beavers reached double-digit in kills led by Mallory Sall (So., OH, Port Coquitlam, British Columbia) with 19 kills. Tarah Dabovich (So., MH, Phoenix, Ariz.) had 13 kills while Jen Dixon (Jr., OH, Brandon, Manitoba) notched 11 kills.

Emily Byrne (Jr., S, Reno, Nev.) did a nice job spreading the ball around, tying as season-high as she collected 55 assists. This marks the third match this season Byrne has reached 50-plus assists in a match.

The Comets were led by Josette Glatt who hit an astounding .481 with 17 kills in the loss.

Minot State will now make their longest Northern Sun road trip of the season as they travel to face Winona State University of Friday Nov. 1 and Upper Iowa University on Saturday Nov. 2.

The Beavers currently sit 6-8 in the NSIC, but are just one game out of the standings for being ranked No. 7 in the conference. The top eight teams advance to the NSIC Tournament beginning on Nov. 22.
