Minot State sweeps S.D. Mines

The Beavers are now 4-5 overall on the season

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Beaver volleyball team ended their 2013 NSIC Challenge on a high note as they swept South Dakota School of Mines.

Minot State (4-5 overall, 0-0 NSIC) went 2-2 on the weekend and will head into the NSIC opener with some confidence as the face off against MSU-Moorhead on Sept. 19 in the Minot State Dome.

In the first match on Saturday MISU jumped out to a fast start against Drury University, winning the first two sets 26-24 and 25-17.

In the third set, the Beavers lost a heartbreaker 25-27 and that would prove costly as Drury went on to win the next to sets handily. Minot State could not finding their hitting as they hit -.026 and .050 in sets four and five to take the loss.

Mallory Sall (So., OH, Port Coquitlam, British Columbia) led MISU with 16 kills while Jen Dixon (Jr., OH, Brandon, Manitoba) collected 14 kills in the loss.

In the second match of the day, Minot State pounded South Dakota School of mines in straight sets 25-17, 25-10, 25-9.

In was more of the same for the Beaver offensive attack as Dixon and Sall combined for 31 kills while each hit over .500 for the match. Setter Emily Byrne (Jr., Reno, Nev.) dished out 38 assists in the while, putting her tournament total near the 200 assist mark.

The Beavers, who didn't hit the four-win mark last season until Sept. 25, will now host MSU-Moorhead on Sept. 19 in their first home match of the 2013 season.
