No. 8 Wildcats too much for Minot State

The Beavers are now 0-7 against NCAA Division II top 25 teams

Box Score WAYNE, Neb. – The Minot State volleyball team faced their first top 25 team of the 2013 season as they battled No. 8 Wayne State College Friday night in Rice Auditorium.

The Wildcats flexed their muscle and showed why they were ranked as they downed the Beavers in straight sets 25-17, 25-17, 25-18.

"Wayne deserves to be one of the top teams in the country," said Minot State head coach Travis Ward. "Their young squad is only going to continue to get better in the next two years."

The young and balanced attack of Wayne State was led by Cori Dobbs who had 12 kills while five other Wildcats had five or more kills in the win.

The MISU offensive attack was stagnant for the second time in three matches as the Beavers managed to hit just .047 for the match. Jen Dixon (Jr., OH, Brandon, Manitoba) led Minot State with nine kills while Mallory Sall (So., OH, Port Coquitlam, British Columbia) chipped in with eight kills.

The Beavers were led defensively be Whitney Hightower (Jr. L, Jefferson City, Ore.) who had nine digs while fellow libero Ashley Heavenor (So., Cochrane, Alberta) also had eight digs on the night.

"It's great to learn from teams like we played tonight," said Ward. "They did a great job taking care of the ball, taking swings at the right time and being patient when necessary."

Minot State (6-7 overall, 2-2 NSIC) will look to rebound Saturday night as they travel to Sioux Falls, S.D. to take on a tough squad from Augustana College (10-2 overall, 2-2 NSIC) at 4 p.m.
