Minot State downed 3-1 by Vikings

The Beavers hit .194 for the match against Augustana College

Box Score SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Minot State received two great individual performances Saturday afternoon but couldn't overcome hitting errors in their second straight loss.

The Beavers (6-8 overall, 2-3 NSIC) won the first set before losing three straight sets as they fell to Augustana College (11-2 overall, 3-2 NSIC) 20-25, 25-23, 25-16, 25-22.

Mallory Sall (So., OH, Port Coquitlam, British Columbia) and Jen Dixon (Jr., OH, Brandon, Manitoba) each turned in great performances for MISU as they both hit over the .333 in hitting percentage. Sall led Minot State with 20 kills while Dixon added 19 kills and 17 digs in the loss.

"Jen was awesome tonight," said Beaver head coach Travis Ward. "She played the best match of her career, but I am confident we are going to see more of it this year. Mallory also did great; she is such a gifted kid and as she continues to give the effort she gave tonight- we will see more great matches. I am really proud of both of them."

After the Beavers took the first set, they carried momentum over to the second set where they led 20-17. It was then that Augie changed the entire match as they rattled off four straight points to take the lead and eventually take the set.

Minot State couldn't recover from the momentum loss in game three as they hit a match-low .111 in the third set. In set four, the Beavers battled but just didn't have enough to push the game to a fifth as they lost, pushing 1-3 in true road games in 2013.

"Hats off to Augie for playing well today," said Ward. "It was a great match against two good teams. We are excited to back to work this week as we prepare for the next tough weekend."

Augustana was led by Holly Hafemeyer and Courtney Ysker who tallied 12 and 10 kills, respectively. Setter Marissa Johnson also had a solid match for Augie with 43 assists and seven digs in the win.

The rigorous NSIC Schedule continues next weekend, as the Beavers host University of Sioux Falls (8-5 overall, 1-4 NSIC) on Friday Oct. 4 before battling another ranked opponent, No. 9 Southwest Minnesota State (10-3 overall, 5-0 NSIC) on Saturday Oct. 5.
