Weekend off to a good start for volleyball

Beavers sweep Huskies in preparation for showdown with No. 2 Bulldogs

MINOT, N.D. – After losing a tight game this past Tuesday to Northern State, the Minot State University volleyball team responded with a convincing three set win on the start of their road trip at St. Cloud State.

The Beavers had their hands full in a tight back and forth first set, but Minot State came away on top taking the set in extra points, 28-26.

Minot State carried their momentum from the first set into the second where they took it easily by a score of 25-17.

The Huskies didn't go away easily, though. St. Cloud State got out to a 15-9 lead and looked as if they were going to force a fourth set but Minot State wouldn't quit.

The Beavers showed resilience coming all the way back to finally even up the score at 23-23. After an attacking error by the Huskies gave the Beavers a 24-23 advantage, Rachel Fagerburg (Fr., OH, Tempe, Ariz.) recorded the final kill of the match as the Beavers took the final set 25-23.

Jen Dixon (Sr., OH, Brandon, Manitoba) recorded a match-high 14 kills in the contest. Mallory Sall (Jr., OH, Port Coquitlam, British Columbia), Tarah Dabovich (Jr., MH, Phoenix, Ariz.) and Fagerburg all recorded double-digit kills, respectively.

Cindy Pelo (Jr., L, Idaho Falls, Idaho) recorded a team-high 19 digs, while Fagerburg tallied 11 of her own.

Kaitlin Doughty recorded a team-high eight kills for the Huskies.

The win moves the Beavers' record to 5-15 overall and 3-9 in the NSIC.

Minot State will look to carry their momentum from this game into a match with the No. 2 team in the country tomorrow afternoon. The Beavers will take on the Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs at 4 p.m.
