Box Score LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Minot State University gave up four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning as the University Hawaii at Hilo rallied to defeat the Beavers 8-2 in both team's first game Saturday during play at the second day of the Montana State-Billings Desert Stinger played at Majestic Park.
The loss snapped the Beavers' (2-1 overall) three-game winning streak dating back to last season at the Desert Stinger. Minot State had leads of 1-0 and 2-1, but couldn't hold off Hilo in both occasions.
Hawaii-Hilo (3-4 overall), who received votes in the preseason coaches' poll, rallied in the fourth for four runs and then scored two in the fifth and one in the sixth to pull away.

After Hilo scored a run in the bottom of the first, the Beavers regained the lead with a solo home run from
Melissa Bell (Jr., C, Belgrade, Mont.), her first homer of the season and the third in three games for Minot State.
But Hilo got to Minot State starter Dixon and reliever
Alyssa Cornejo (Fr., P/2B, Riverside, Calif.) in the fourth. Dixon game up a run in the inning and Cornejo three as Hilo benefited from a couple of hits and one of two errors for the Beavers.
Meanwhile, Hawaii-Hilo's Ashley Nelson settled in for a five hitter, giving up just two runs while striking out five MISU batters.
Kristina Victa and Rebecca Lee both finished with two hits, while Melanie Morelos knocked in three runs. Lee also helped her team with two RBIs.
Five different Beavers finished with one hit each as
Sarah Nicks (Fr., UTL, Grossmont, Calif.) and
Jenn Spencer (Fr., 1B, Winnipeg, Manitoba) picked up their first hits in a Minot State uniform. Cornejo suffered the loss in relief.
Minot State finishes day 2 off with a 7 p.m. (PT) nightcap game against Central Washington.
