Beavers shut out in nightcap

Minot State can only muster one hit against 4-0 Central Washington

Box Score LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Minot State University had two bad innings in two games Saturday and it cost the Beavers.

MISU gave up three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning as Central Washington snapped a scoreless tie with the three-spot to win 3-0 in day 2 action at the Montana State-Billings Desert Stinger played at Majestic Field.

The Beavers (2-2 overall) went winless on the day as the University of Hawaii at Hilo used a four-run fourth to win earlier in the day. The Wildcats (4-0 overall) did the same thing to the Beavers with the big fourth, using a key home run by Andrea Hamada to break the ice.

Until the Hamada homer and the subsequent pair of runs by Central Washington, Minot State starter Mindy Lorimor (Jr., P, Thurman, Iowa) was in cruise control. She finished with five innings pitched and just five hits, giving up one earned run of the three plated in suffering her first loss of the season.

Lorimor, however, couldn't keep pace with CWU's Kiana Wood as she twirled a one-hit shutout, striking out nine. The Beavers lone hit was a single by Jen Dixon (Sr., OF/P, Brandon, Manitoba). The Beavers threatened twice with a runner at third, but Wood didn't give in and shut out the Beavers for the first time this season.

Hamada led the Wildcats at the plate with two hits and an RBI.

The Beavers finish off the weekend with preseason No. 1 and defending national champion Central Oklahoma at 2 p.m. (PT).
