Minot State announces Hughes as head coach

Tyler Hughes to be introduced as 20th head coach in school history

MINOT, N.D. – Minot State University will announce Tyler Hughes as the Beavers 20th head football coach, the MISU Athletic Department released Saturday.

Hughes, who is currently the head coach at Southern Virginia University, has accepted the offer Saturday afternoon, pending completion of various human resources' documents. The university will formally introduce Hughes during a press conference as soon as all documents have been finalized.

Hughes was hired at Southern Virginia in March after spending a year with Urban Meyer at Ohio State University as a quality control assistant coach. He performed advance scouting, film analysis and data analytics for the Buckeyes, helping Ohio State to a 12-2 record.

Before Ohio State, Hughes was 20-4 in two seasons, including an 11-1 record in 2012, as head football coach at Snow College in Ephraim, Utah. He was named the 2012 Western States Football League Coach of the Year in 2012.

Due to the human resources' restrictions, Minot State officials will not be able to comment further on the hire.
