JAMESTOWN, N.D. — The Beavers return to the road Saturday afternoon, traveling to Jamestown, N.D., for an in-state matchup against the University of Jamestown. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10.
The Beavers enter the game with a 1-5 overall record, while the Jimmies are still searching for their first victory of the season at 0-6 overall and 0-5 in NSIC play.
Saturday's matchup gives Minot State an opportunity to get back into the winning column and build momentum as the Beavers continue through the second half of their conference schedule.
Minot State has relied heavily on the rushing attack with key players such as Brandon Hines Jr., Jett Lundeen, and Sam Buckhanan throughout the season and enters the weekend looking to establish the ground game once again. The Beavers' ability to control the line of scrimmage on early downs will be important against a Jamestown defense looking to slow down Minot State.
"You can see that they play really hard, they have talent and they're going to fly around," head coach Ian Shields said regarding Jamestown. "We're two programs in similar places. Both teams will be anxious to meet each other."
The Beavers will also look to clean up mistakes and execute more consistently in all three phases of the game. After a challenging opening portion of the season, Minot State will need a strong start on the road to put themselves in position to come away with a victory.
The Beavers still have four games left after their contest against Jamestown, and each matchup is equally precious.
"We're focused one week at a time, that's the journey," said Shields.
For Jamestown, Saturday represents another opportunity. The Jimmies enter the contest at 0-6 overall and 0-5 in conference play, making Saturday's matchup an important one for both teams as both programs look to finish the season on a stronger note.
With both teams looking to change the direction of their seasons, Saturday's contest provides another important conference test for the Beavers.
"We have to keep on keeping on – we have to keep going," said Shields.
Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, at the University of Jamestown in Jamestown, N.D.
