Beavers finish invite on rough note

Volleyball heads to U Mary coming off two 3-0 losses

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MINOT, N.D.  – The Minot State volleyball team wrapped up the weekend at the Northern State Invitational Friday afternoon. After dropping two matches on Friday afternoon, the team did their best to try and split the weekend but were unable to do so.

The Beavers were defeated in straight sets by the Northern State Wolves in the first match of the day. The Wolves took the sets by the scores of 25-14, 25-11 and 25-11.

The Wolves finished the match with an impressive .357 hitting percentage, which proved to be too much for the Beavers in the long haul. Tori Biach led the way for NSU with 11 kills and only one attacking error.

Jen Dixon (Sr., OH, Brandon, Manitoba) did what she could to help the Beavers with 11 kills and nine digs.

The second match of the day was more of the same for the Beavers, but they managed to keep the sets significantly closer against Southwest Baptist University. The Bearcats defeated the Beavers 3-0 with set scores of 25-22, 25-23 and 25-23.

Freshman Rachel Fagerburg (OH, Tempe, Ariz.) continues to make her presence felt as she fills in for the injured Mallory Sall (Jr., OH, Port Coquitlam, British Columbia). Fagerburg ended the match with 10 kills and six digs.

Lori Angello led the way for the Bearcats recording 11 kills.

The losses move Minot State's overall record to 2-6 while the Bearcats ended the weekend sitting at 5-3 and Northern State sits at 7-1.

Minot State looks to get back on track when they open NSIC play and travel to the University of Mary on Tuesday, Sept. 16. The Beavers fell to the Marauders 3-2 at the Montana State University-Billings Invitational last weekend.

Game time is set for 7 p.m. in Bismarck, N.D.
